Augustana College: Called to the moment during a summer of unrest

Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 5:30 PM until 6:15 PMCentral Standard Time UTC -06:00

The summer of 2020 was filled with unrest unlike anything Generation Z has ever witnessed. Questions surrounding race, justice, human dignity, class and social change--all complex issues--came into focus at a time when it was difficult to gather in community to discuss and debate. We knew we couldn't just stand still; Augustana's mission is greater than that and we knew we had to take action to serve our students during this important time.

Augustana, when called to the moment, acted and has continued to do so. We invite you to learn more about what we've done, are doing and planning in the future to impact justice and social change.

Please join Dr. Monica Smith, vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion, and W. Kent Barnds, executive vice president of external relations, to learn how Augustana worked and planned through the unrest in the summer of 2020 to serve Augustana students and prepare future students to take action.

Dr. Smith will review the programming offered throughout the summer and fall in response to the unrest in our nation. And, Kent and Dr. Smith will describe a new innovative microscholarship program designed to prepare new students to the complex discussions that happen at a place like Augie and that showcase Augustana alumni working for justice and social change.

Registration is no longer available.
